Working Plan

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE) is the parent company of the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs, the National Basketball Association’s Toronto Raptors, Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC, the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts and development teams with the Toronto Marlies (American Hockey League), Raptors 905 (NBA G League) and Toronto FC II (MLS NEXT Pro League). MLSE owns and/or operates all the venues its teams play and train in, including Scotiabank Arena, BMO Field, Coca-Cola Coliseum, Ford Performance Centre, BMO Training Ground and OVO Athletic Centre.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down sporting and live entertainment events, the Digital Labs team had several high-profile projects in development to provide enhanced fan experiences. When their digital arena project was facing tight delivery deadlines, they leveraged an auticon Canada consultant to supplement the testing team so that they could meet roadmap milestones for feature releases.

Challenge

The MLSE Digital Lab testing resources were being stretched with demanding deadlines for numerous projects including an ambitious digital arena experience. In particular, the team needed an experienced, contract-based mobile tester, who knew how to create regression tests, write scripts, execute test cases, document bugs, and work quickly and accurately. Our auticon Canada resource needed to jump in and get up to speed quickly so that testing back-log could be cleared without jeopardizing the quality of the product. He performed cross-browser, cross-platform testing and feature testing for the mobile and desktop application He became immersed in the product and internal processes and was able to quickly integrate into the team, providing valuable inputs on the day-to-day test completion, process improvement and coordinated all the events in the test life cycle.

Client’s Feedback

“Having an experienced tester come in, particularly in mobile applications, was of enormous benefit to our team. Derek learned at a rapid pace and was able to be productive in a very short period of time. This enabled us to start clearing our back-log and ensure we could meet release deadlines for new features and versions of the app. He brings amazing insights and his contributions have directly improved our process and product. In addition, the support of the auticon employment coordinator has not only helped Derek during the course of the project, but also helped our team improve communication and collaboration.”
