auticon’s Neurodiversity at Work Report 2024
auticon’s Impact Report 2024, features a deeper look at neuroinclusion in practice – highlighting the neuroinclusion strategy that the Bank of Ireland has developed and implemented, in partnership with auticon.
Launched in March 2024, the strategy is designed to create a thriving workplace for neurodivergent colleagues while reinforcing the power of diverse thinking in driving business success. Chief People Officer Matt Elliott states,
“Good business decisions come from better thought processes that are informed by more views—diversity of thought is critical.”
With 26% of Irish society identifying as neurodivergent or having a direct connection to someone who is, the Bank recognises that neuroinclusion is more than a diversity initiative—it is a commitment to people and communities.
Through a data-led approach, the Bank has already seen a transformative impact. 75% of staff have engaged with auticon’s NeuroAware eLearning course, achieving record-breaking participation for non-mandatory learning. Colleagues have completed advanced training to become NeuroPositive Ambassadors, championing neuroinclusion, with more signed up to join them in 2025 and over 1,000 people managers have taken part in specialised training.
The Bank’s Neurodiversity Network has grown to become its largest inclusion Employee Resource Group, highlighting the growing momentum for change. Additionally, new tools such as the Inclusion Passport and job coaching for neurodivergent colleagues and their managers provide direct support for neurodivergent employees and managers alike. By working closely with auticon’s autistic technology consultants and Neuroinclusion Coaches, the Bank is also embedding real-world lived experience into its policies and training.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Bank of Ireland will continue to expand its neuroinclusion efforts beyond employees to include customer-facing staff, suppliers, and customers. Keen to guarantee that their strategy evolves to the needs of the business and their colleagues, the bank will undertake a second Neuroinclusion Maturity Assessment with auticon, to ensure ongoing progress is measured and that they are setting global benchmark for workplace neuroinclusion. As HR Director, Eimear Harty says:
“We are all neurodiverse, so being more neuroinclusive removes stigma at work and provides a fair opportunity for everyone to thrive.”
Luke Williams OBE, Group CEO, who joined auticon at the beginning of this year, commented on this year’s report:
“We can see in our Neurodiversity at Work Report what is possible when businesses commit to meaningful change. By embedding neuroinclusion into their culture, Bank of Ireland is not only supporting their neurodivergent employees, they are setting a new standard for corporate inclusion and delivering purposeful impact for all their colleagues, their families, their customers and society at large.”
