We help companies become a destination for neurodivergent talent.

Since 2009, we have partnered with clients wanting a neurodiverse workplace by providing inclusion
and technology solutions that benefit from our autistic DNA.

Creating a neuroinclusive workplace is not just the right thing to do: it’s a smart business decision.

As the largest majority-autistic company in the world, we have been delivering exceptional IT solutions harnessing the distinctive skills of our neurodivergent talent since 2009. We are proud to be living proof that neurodiversity works at work.

Our comprehensive neuroinclusion services and unique lived experience are enabling forward-thinking organisations to attract, retain and reap the benefits of neurodivergent talent: driving the people sustainability agenda, providing a competitive advantage, and creating an enviable inclusive culture that delivers both economic and social value.

Changing lives together

We believe affecting change in one life is the starting point for changing society. We therefore measure our social performance through the difference auticon makes to the lives of our autistic colleagues, the impact on our customer organisations, and the role we play in creating awareness of neurodiversity in society.

Between 15-20% of the global population are neurodivergent. 2% are estimated to be autistic. Despite many autistic people being talented, qualified and keen to work, only 29% of autistic people are in full time work. Within the autistic workforce, a vast majority are under-employed, working in jobs that they are over-qualified or over-skilled for.

Our vision and purpose

To build a more inclusive world.

Our mission

Address the inequalities in employment for neurodivergent adults and showcase the strengths of neurodiversity in society.

Our values

Our values pervade our daily operations and our relationships internally and to the outside world. They act as rules of conduct and characterise how we do business.

  • Inclusive: We are changing the world for and with the neurodivergent, with the spirit ‘nothing about us, without us’. We challenge ourselves to raise the bar on inclusion in everything we do.
  • Human-focused: We operate with a human focus to create an improved quality of life for our employees. We prize individual differences and put people first.
  • Inspiring: We strive to be inspiring for our customers, employees, stakeholders and the society in what we do and how we make it happen.
  • Solution-oriented: We are flexible and solution-oriented, open to new ideas and never afraid to try them.
  • Value creating: We create social and economic value through operating a commercially sustainable business with a strong social mission.

Autism is not a processing error,
it's a different operating system.

Building the World's Leading Neurodiversity Enterprise:
Our Story

2011
The Berlin Beginning

In 2011, Dirk Müller-Remus established auticon in Berlin, driven by a personal mission. Inspired by his autistic son’s experience, he recognised the profound inequality facing autistic adults in employment – despite their exceptional strengths. Dirk saw an opportunity: the growing shortage of IT and data specialists could be addressed by harnessing the unique talents of neurodivergent professionals.

2013 - 2022
Strategic Partnership and Global Expansion

Two years later, Kurt Schöffer joined as Joint CEO alongside Dirk, having been one of auticon’s earliest investors. When Dirk stepped away from the business in 2016 to start a new social enterprise for neurodivergent people, Kurt took the reins with ambitious plans for international growth.

Under Kurt’s leadership, auticon’s expansion was purposeful and impactful. auticon opened offices in the UK and France in 2016, followed by Switzerland and Italy in 2017. In 2018, strategic acquisitions of MindSpark in the US and Meticulon in Canada expanded auticon’s footprint to North America. auticon Australia launched in 2019, with Poland and New Zealand joining in 2022.

2009 - 2022
Nordic Innovation

Simultaneously, Lars Johansson-Kjellerød had been pioneering similar work in Norway. His 2009 launch of Unicus created a social enterprise model connecting autistic IT professionals with meaningful technology careers. Unicus grew throughout the Nordic region into Sweden and Finland, and in 2022 invested in Dutch company Specialisterren.

2023
A Powerful Union

Both organisations had proven that neurodiversity drives business success whilst creating genuine social impact. Joining forces in 2023, we became the world’s largest autistic-majority organisation – employing over 500 people across 15 markets, with more than 75% of our workforce being neurodivergent.

For 15 years, we’ve provided sustainable employment for autistic technologists, standing as living proof that neurodiversity works at work.

2024
New Leadership, Enduring Mission

Following Kurt’s well-earned retirement in 2024 after 12 transformative years, Luke Williams OBE became Group CEO in January 2025. His focus remains clear: building on Dirk and Kurt’s remarkable legacy by creating more opportunities for autistic and neurodivergent people globally, demonstrating the measurable value of neurodiverse teams, and fostering a truly inclusive society.
