About

Statnett is the Norwegian transmission system operator, responsible for ensuring balance in the national power grid and maintaining a stable electricity supply.

The Challenge

Power grids often face imbalances between supply and demand, requiring expensive regulation. Statnett aimed to reduce this by analysing over 10 years of data to predict and prepare for imbalances.

The Solution

Unicus analysed historical and real-time data and developed algorithms to predict imbalances and optimise electricity production across Norway’s four power zones and balance reserves across national grids.

The Benefits

Improved ability to forecast energy imbalances

  • Cost savings through optimised production
  • Enhanced cross-border power reserve management

The Highlights

Large-scale data analysis of 10+ years

  • Algorithm development for national and Nordic energy zones
  • Use of real-time grid capacity and consumption data

Social Impact

Demonstrated the business value of neurodivergent data experts in mission-critical energy infrastructure projects.
