auticon and Halcyon Knights launch specialist neurodivergent recruitment service to tackle Australia’s autism employment gap

New service aims to connect employers with an underutilised talent pool while improving employment outcomes for neurodivergent Australians. The partnership marks a significant expansion for auticon Australia and introduces a new specialist recruitment pathway designed to help both employers and neurodivergent job seekers succeed.

auticon Australia and Halcyon Knights have announced a new partnership that will bring specialist neurodivergent recruitment services to the Australian market.

The partnership marks an important evolution for auticon Australia. While the organisation remains a specialist technology consultancy, it will now offer dedicated neurodivergent recruitment services to help Australian employers access a broader pool of talent. The service combines specialist recruitment, neurodiversity expertise, onboarding support, workplace integration and coaching.

For more than 15 years, auticon has been helping organisations build neuroinclusive teams in technology. Operating across 14 countries, auticon is the world’s largest autistic-majority company, with more than 80 per cent of its 600 employees identifying as autistic or neurodivergent. The organisation was established to address the significant employment barriers faced by neurodivergent people in technology while demonstrating the value different ways of thinking and what that brings to business.

However, the employment gap for neurodivergent people remains significant.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, only 42.2% of autistic Australians aged 15 to 64 are employed.  The unemployment rate was 18.2%, almost six times higher than for people without disability. [1] At the same time, many employers continue to face skills shortages across technology, data, digital transformation and other specialist disciplines, areas that many neurodivergent people excel in.

auticon believes traditional recruitment processes often prevent neurodivergent candidates from demonstrating their full capability.

Ivonne Ranisch, CEO of auticon Australia, said the partnership represents an important step forward for both employers and job seekers.

“We are incredibly excited to be partnering with Halcyon Knights to launch this service in Australia. For many neurodivergent people, the challenge is not capability. The challenge is that traditional recruitment processes do not always provide the opportunity to demonstrate what they can genuinely contribute.”

“We know there is an enormous talent opportunity in the market. By combining specialist neurodiversity expertise with strong recruitment capability, we can help employers access that talent creating more meaningful employment opportunities for neurodivergent Australians.”

Anton Roe, Managing Director Technology at Halcyon Knights, said the partnership strengthens the firm’s ability to support clients in a changing talent market.

“Organisations are increasingly looking beyond traditional talent pools. Partnering with auticon gives us access to specialist expertise in recruiting, onboarding and supporting neurodivergent professionals throughout their employment journey.”

“It expands the value we can offer our clients, creates access to new talent and helps organisations build more inclusive, innovative and resilient teams.”

The new service has been designed to support both employers and candidates. Beyond recruitment, organisations can access workplace guidance, onboarding support, coaching and education to help create sustainable employment outcomes.

For neurodivergent job seekers, the impact can be life changing.

Meiko Giesemann had experienced severe difficulties seeking employment before finding support through auticon, she welcomed the announcement.

“For a long time, employer interviews felt more like theatre auditions, where I was graded on my acting and appearance, not what I could actually do. auticon focused on my strengths and helped me to find an environment where I could succeed.”

“The fact that auticon is now expanding into recruitment means more neurodivergent people will have confident access to opportunities which may previously have felt out of reach. That is incredibly exciting.”

As Australian organisations continue to search for skilled talent, auticon and Halcyon Knights believe neurodivergent professionals represent one of the country’s most underutilised workforce opportunities.

The partnership aims to help employers unlock that potential while creating better employment outcomes for neurodivergent Australians.
